  • Reforms from 10 March 2025:
  • Median wage requirement removed — employers must pay market rate.

Work-to-Residence (Green List Trades)

  • As of 18 August 2025, 10 trade occupations joined the Green List Work-to-Residence pathway.
  • Eligible roles include: Metal Fabricator, Machinist, Fitter, Welder, Panel Beater, Vehicle Painter, Paving Plant Operator, etc.
  • Requirements:
  • 24 months of full-time paid work in New Zealand in the Green List occupation.
  • Age: 55 or under at time of residence application.
  • Wage thresholds:
  • For Fabricators, Welders, Machinists, Fitters: NZD $43.63/hour.
  • For Panel Beaters, Painters, Paving Operators: NZD $38.59/hour.
  • Standard health, character, and English checks required.

2- Requirements & Eligibility

  • Work Experience / Qualification: AEWV applicants now need at least 2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Wages: Market rate for AEWV roles; specific Green List wage thresholds for trade-to-residence roles.
  • Occupation Classification: INZ is transitioning from ANZSCO to NOL. From Nov 2025, 87 new NOL roles will be eligible.
  • Visa Length: Up to 3 years for certain lower-skilled roles under AEWV.
  • Age Limit (Green List): 55 or younger for trade residence applications.
  • English, Health & Character: Standard immigration requirements apply.

3. Application Process & Timelines

  • Secure a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer.
  • Employer applies for a Job Check (role must match NOL / ANZSCO as required).
  • Prepare your documentation: relevant work experience, contracts, references, proof of English, and health/character checks.
  • Apply online for your AEWV or Green List Work-to-Residence visa, using the updated INZ form (from July 2025 for Green List roles).
  • If granted, travel to New Zealand and begin working.
  • For Work-to-Residence Green List trades: after 24 months of eligible work, apply for residence.
